Abilene's 'Motorcycle Ride to Work Day' is Friday, June 21st, 2024
International Motorcycle and Scooter Ride to Work Day is celebrated annually to honor the joy of riding a motorcycle and to raise awareness about sharing the roads. Typically, it falls on the third Monday in June. However, in Abilene, we're celebrating it on June 21st with a cruise through town followed by a free lunch.
We'll meet at the parking lot of the Taylor County Expo Center at 11 AM. A group photo will be taken at 11:20 AM and kickstands will be up at 11:30 AM. The Abilene Police Department and TxDOT will escort our cruise through town, which will end at Kent's Harley-Davidson for a free lunch for all participating riders.
As the weather gets warmer, there will be an increase in the number of motorcycles on the road. Therefore, it's crucial to be extra cautious and "Look Twice, Save a Life". It's equally important for motorcycle riders to be cautious and responsible while on the road. If you haven't taken a motorcycle safety course yet, consider checking out Abilene Safety Instruction. Their classes will teach you how to be a better rider, and you'll need the course to get your motorcycle endorsement on your driver's license.
According to TxDOT, the Abilene District, consisting of six area counties, has had over 250 motorcycle accidents since 2016. In the same period, Texas has had over 6700 motorcycle accidents.
Motorcyclists know that the freedom and exhilaration of riding is unparalleled. NHTSA wants you to enjoy a lifetime of that joy by choosing to ride safely—wearing a helmet and riding sober. Use Ride to Work Day to review the facts about motorcycle safety, share them with riders and drivers, and recommit yourself to safe riding.
